With my homestay parents at Lalitpur 7/22/19

Hi! My name’s Alex, and I’m a current high schooler in New York. Last summer, I traveled to Nepal on a service learning trip where I learned about the country, the people, and their lives. Most of all I was moved by the kids I met during my rural homestay and the challenges they face, often unable to access proper education.

Now, for just over a year I’ve been working with the support of the non-profit organization PHASE Nepal, setting up drives and contacting organizations to collect and distribute laptops to underfunded Nepalese schools. Nepal has one of the world’s lowest adult literacy rates and UN HDR Education Index rankings, largely because of the difficulty of accessing schools and affording supplies for children living outside of major cities. Following the devastating 2015 earthquake and the current COVID-19 pandemic, now more than ever, schools are struggling to ensure proper education for their students without sufficient government and private funding.

Through Computers for Nepal and your donations, I hope to help support education in Nepal and make a difference in the lives of underserved students.
